How We Started
Chestnut Mare Systems was born out of frustration. As an equine professional running a saddle fitting business, I couldn't find software that actually understood how we worked. Every option on the market was either built for generic service businesses or so bloated with unnecessary features that it got in the way more than it helped.
So I built SaddleWorks. Not as a side project or a quick fix, but as a proper solution to a real problem. When it became clear that the same issues existed across the entire equine industry, Chestnut Mare Systems was the natural next step.
The company name honors two mares who taught me everything about persistence and problem-solving: Kate, a solid citizen lesson horse who never had a bad day, and Tiz, an energetic OTTB who has never said no to a challenge. They represent the kind of reliability and grit we're building into our software.
Our Mission
We're focused on providing specialized software solutions for the equine industry. For too long, equine professionals have had to make do with generic business software that doesn't understand their workflow, their clients, or their challenges. Tools built for plumbers or landscapers just don't cut it when you're managing horses, coordinating barn schedules, or tracking veterinary records.
Generic software forces you to adapt your business to fit the software. We believe it should be the other way around. Each of our products is designed from the ground up for a specific type of equine business, with features that actually matter and workflows that make sense.
We're not trying to build one app that does everything for everyone. We're building specialized tools that do exactly what they need to do, exceptionally well.
What We're Building
Each product under the Chestnut Mare Systems umbrella serves a distinct corner of the equine industry. SaddleWorks handles the unique needs of mobile service providers like saddle fitters and farriers. BarnWorks tackles the complex scheduling and billing challenges of barn management. EquiRounds brings modern practice management to equine veterinarians who spend more time in trucks than at desks.
We're building a family of products that work the way you work. No learning curves that take weeks. No features you'll never use. No forcing your business into someone else's idea of how things should be done.
Just good software that solves real problems for people who work with horses.
